Coastal garage door care

Salt air corrodes garage door rollers, hinges, springs and cables. Coastal-grade parts and service plans for Currumbin, Palm Beach, Tugun, Kirra and Coolangatta.

Open · 8am–9pm

If you can hear the surf from your driveway, your garage door is breathing salt. The sea breeze carries fine salt spray inland, and it settles on everything metal. Over months it turns into rust on hinges, rollers, springs and cables, and the door gets stiffer, noisier and weaker.

We see this every week in Currumbin, Palm Beach, Tugun, Bilinga, Kirra and Coolangatta. The good news is that it's slow, predictable and largely preventable.

When to call us

  • Orange staining on hinges and brackets
  • Rollers that squeal or no longer spin freely
  • Rust spots on springs or cables
  • Corrosion along the bottom of the door
  • The door has become noticeably harder to move

How we do it

  1. Assess the corrosionWe check which parts are cosmetically rusty and which are structurally weakened.
  2. Replace weakened partsSeized or weakened parts are replaced, using stainless or galvanised parts where available.
  3. Treat and lubricateMoving parts are cleaned and protected with suitable lubricants.
  4. Set a planWe suggest a service interval that suits how close you are to the water.

Near the beach?

Rinse the door, tracks and hinges with fresh water once a month, spray rollers, hinges and springs with a silicone lubricant every few months, and keep the door closed when the garage isn't in use.

Coastal corrosion care questions

How far from the beach does salt reach?

Salt spray is heaviest within the first few hundred metres, but it travels further inland on a strong sea breeze.

Will stainless parts stop all corrosion?

No part is completely immune, but stainless and galvanised parts last much longer in salt air than plain steel.

Is rinsing really worth it?

Yes. A monthly rinse with fresh water removes salt before it can do damage, and costs nothing.
